John Edward Beighton (contributed by his great nephew Dave Loydall)
John Edward Beighton was born on the 8th July 1897 to Herbert and Hannah Beighton of No 2 Penny Long Lane. He joined the army around 1916 and towards the end of the war he was taken prisoner by the Germans. A report in the Derby Daily Telegraph on the 23rd August 1918 gives some information on the incident. On his return to England he took over a Barbers Shop in Abbey Street. He married Florence Atkins in Sept 1921 and was a member of the Home Guard during the Second World War. He died in 1971.
